How to Clean Install Windows 7 – Step-by-Step Guide

Windows 7 is still a favorite for many users. If your PC is slow or full of errors, a clean install can bring it back to life. In this guide, I’ll show you how to erase everything and install a fresh copy of Windows 7 using a bootable USB.
What You’ll Need:
- A PC or laptop
- USB flash drive (minimum 8GB)
- Windows 7 ISO file
- Bootable USB tool (BalenaEtcher recommended)

Step 1: Create a Bootable USB
- Follow this guide: How to Create a Bootable USB using BalenaEtcher
- Select your Windows 7 ISO file in BalenaEtcher.
- Insert your USB drive and click Flash.
- Once done, safely eject the USB drive.
Step 2: Boot From the USB
- Insert the USB into the target computer.
- Restart the PC and open the boot menu (press F12, ESC, or DEL depending on your brand).
- Select the USB drive and press Enter.
Step 3: Clean Install Windows 7
- Setup will load. Choose your language and click Next.
- Click Install Now.
- Accept the license terms and click Next.
- Select Custom (advanced).
- Delete all the old partitions (make sure you backed up important data first).
- Select the unallocated space, click New, then Next.
- Windows 7 will begin installing. It may take 20–30 minutes.
Step 4: Complete the Setup
- Once installation is done, set your PC name, user name, and password.
- Set the date and time.
- You can skip activation and product key for now (if allowed by ISO).
Step 5: Install Drivers & Updates
- Install basic drivers manually or using a driver pack (since Windows 7 may not install all automatically).
- Go to Control Panel > Windows Update and check for updates.
